The family came to us wanting to transform this catch-all space, including a laundry room, mudroom, and 3 separate closets. The space right off the garage is used daily as the informal entrance and did not match the rest of their beautiful home. The challenge came in the form of needing to incorporate a laundry room, a mudroom, a larger beverage cooler, the freezer that was previously in the garage, a station for the furry members of this household and tons of cabinet storage for laundry supplies, seasonal clothes, off-the-kitchen storage, a vacuum. The family likes blue and glass tiles and white cabinetry. We removed all the closets and installed all-white cabinetry to create a bright and uniform space. We kept the structural pillar in the middle of the room but we added a coffered ceiling to make it part of the decor. This space is a testimony that one can find beauty in utility.
