This 1929 Mediterranean style home had a 80s addition in the back of the house that included a kitchen, family room, and office. It was a contemporary design by a well-known firm at the Chicago Merchandise Mart. The scope of work was to redesign and rebuild the kitchen, update the butler’s pantry, relocate the laundry room from the basement to the first floor, and add a mudroom across from the new laundry.
The new owners wanted something more in keeping with the rest of the home which has details such as Spanish ceramic tile, wrought iron railings and window casings, and a stucco exterior. As happens with most projects, the scope of work expanded. New flooring was installed in the addition and the powder room was updated. Custom alterations were designed for the fireplace mantel and bookcases in the living room.
